Arena football league5/18/2023 DefenseĪrena Football has the Mac and Jack Linebacker rules to it, but Indoor Football doesn’t have that. It’s not a designed rule, it’s just not common. Indoor Football is looked at more like the outdoor games, where there are players just for offense and players just for defense. Indoor Football doesn’t have any Ironman players in it. If there are five receivers, all five can go in motion at any time before the snap, just as long as the offense snaps the ball in time so it isn’t a false start. This rule is made primarily so that the arena leagues are made more for passing instead of running. Again, if this rule isn’t followed, there will be a hefty penalty. Five offensive players have to stay inside of this box that also goes back five yards on their side. There has to be at least five defensive players in a box that goes five yards back. There is also an imaginary box that both sides of the ball has to stay in as well. If the Jack Linebacker moves outside of his assigned “box”, then he will get called for “Jack out of the box”, which is a costly penalty, especially if it is a close game and you need to get the defense off of the field. The Jack Linebacker has an imaginary “box” that he has to stay in until the quarterback either moves out of the pocket or throws the ball. The Mac Linebacker can rush the quarterback at any given time during the play. Moving to the defensive side of the ball, Arena Football has a Mac Linebacker and a Jack Linebacker. Ironman isn’t a rule that all leagues have to follow, but it is more common in Arena Football. The whole concept to Ironman football is that players must play on both sides of the ball, whether it’s receiver on offense and linebacker on defense, or whatever it is. Arena Football has more of an Ironman play to it.
